Pedigree Limousin bulls sold to a top price of 10,500gns at Ballymena Mart last Saturday in the first live breed society sale to be held in NI since the coronavirus lockdown.
Organised by the British Limousin Cattle Society, an excellent line-up of breeding bulls and heifers were in high demand from the outset.
Topping the sale was Rahoney Obed, from the McFarland family, Trillick, which was sold to a breeder from Somerset.
This September 2018-born animal was sired by Plumtree Fantastic, out of the homebred Rahoney Hazel, by Haltcliffe Vermont.
The second-highest price of 4,500gns was paid for Carnew Ordiscoll. Bred by the Aiken family, Dromore, Co Down, Ordiscoll was sired by Gerrygullinane Glen.
A total of 16 bulls sold to £3,281, a rise of £496 on the sale last year.
Heifers
In the heifer section, 12 sold to an average of £1,881, up £53 on last year, with a top price of 2,300gns paid on two occasions for Heathmount Octet and Heathmount Aileen, both bred by the McKinney brothers, Maghera.
