The Irish Charolais Cattle Society held its annual autumn sale of bulls in Tullamore, Co Offaly this Saturday.

Of the 135 bulls catalogued, 75 went through the ring.

Although the trade was slow to start, it eventually heated up and there was a final clearance rate of 60%.

The top-priced bull on the day was bred by Jim Geoghegan from Streamstown, Mullingar, Co Westmeath. Lisnagre McStay, sired by Major, sold for €7,400. The bull was purchased by James Donnelly from Co Longford.

Patrick McClean from Newtowncunningham, Co Donegal scooped the overall champion prize for his bull Roughan Malachi.

This March 2016 bull was sired by Roughan Galant and went under the hammer for €7,200 to join Brendan Feeney’s Bostonia pedigree charolais herd in Sligo.
