A 21.6ac non-residential farm on the outskirts of Bettystown, Co Meath, was successfully sold at auction in mid-December.

The land at Minnistown Road, Piltown, Bettystown, was listed with Drogheda-based Robert B Daly & Son Ltd and the grassland holding was all in one block.

Guided ahead of the sale at €475,000, it has a prominent corner position and road frontage where the Piltown and Minnistown roads meet and the Dublin to Belfast railway line forms its eastern boundary.

The auction took place on Friday 12 December in the offices of Robert B Daly.

While proceedings were described as slow to start, once an opening bid of €400,000 was placed, three bidders entered the fray.

Between them, they placed 29 bids before auctioneer Peter Flynn brought the gavel down at €555,000 (€25,696/ac).

It was purchased by a local for agricultural purposes with the under-bidder also involved in agriculture.

Following the auction, Peter Flynn said: “We’re happy with how proceedings went. It’s rare that land comes on the market in the area and this auction shows the appetite that is there for it when it does come up for sale.”

The land is presently zoned for agricultural use, but there may be a long-term hope of development, albeit much further down the line.
