Mullingar was the first equestrian auction house to host a sale online last year, in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, and following a turbulent year is all set to run this year’s iteration in the same manner.
Mullingar’s Declan Fagan said: “The live streaming of our auction sales opened up a worldwide market for our sellers with successful returns achieved at all our auctions last year.”
Fagan added that 40% of sales at Mullingar’s November auction went to online buyers who did not attend the sale in person, 37% of lots sold to overseas buyers and 55% of four-year-old and older horses were sold to overseas buyers.

“Our 2020 sales results across all categories (hunters, sport horses and standard breds) showed that good quality photographs and video are key aids in getting the confidence of the online buyer, along with a full and accurate description showing the horse or pony’s suitability for the target customer,” Fagan continued.
Vendors in this year’s March sale will have the opportunity of having their lots professionally videoed at Mullingar Equestrian Centre on Saturday 6 March (over show jumps) and Sunday 7 March (over cross country type fences).
The pre-sale video days will be an opportunity to showcase a horse or pony’s potential and to be highlighted in the sales catalogue and pre-sale marketing.
