NFU England and Wales president Minette Batters was a guest on BBC Radio 4’s iconic Desert Island Discs recently.

The show focuses on the personal rather than public side of the guest, so we got an insight into a truly remarkable life.

Minette runs a 300ac drystock farm near Salisbury in Wiltshire (called small by Wikipedia, but everything is relative).

Raised on a farm, where her father had a tenancy, she has had a varied career.

A National Hunt jockey, she rode 30 winners for David Ellesworth, and ran a catering company before returning to her first love. She runs a wedding venue on the farm.
