I see that Dalton Philips, the son of a Co Wicklow poultry farmer and former boss of the UK supermarket Morrisons, is set to take off as chief executive of the Dublin Airport Authority.
He succeeds Kevin Toland, who is leaving to work at Aryzta, following the departure of Owen Killian earlier this year. Toland previously ran Glanbia’s US ingredients business.
Both will have their work cut out. Philips will be expected to get the proposed new runway at Dublin Airport over the line.
The arrival of Toland ends speculation that a full Aryzta break-up is on the cards, with the aim of getting the baker back on track. It is expected that his first job will be to right size the US business and find a buyer for Aryzta’s 49% shareholding in Picard, the French frozen food company it bought only two years ago.
