A festive tractor, truck and car run organised by local teenagers Shane Gallagher and Tiernan Moyles is bidding to light up Achill Island in Co Mayo on Saturday 28 December.

The Achill Agri Festive Run fundraiser in aid of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice is in memory of two local men, Vincent Gallagher and John Toolis.

The young friends, who are both just 14, wanted to organise a fundraiser to recognise the compassionate care Vincent - Shane's grandfather - and John - Tiernan's mother's uncle - received in Mayo/Roscommon Hospice prior to their passing.

The event is intended to honour their memory and express thanks to everyone in Mayo/Roscommon Hospice for their support and kindness to both families.

Route

Starting at 4pm from Ted’s Bar, Achill, the convoy of vehicles will travel to Keel, Crumpaun, Ballinasally, Dugort and Valley before returning to the starting point at approximately 6pm for refreshments and a raffle.

The organisers are appealing to the public to come out on their road or village to give all of those taking part a wave and plenty of support.

All proceeds from the event go to the Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

You can also donate online via idonate.ie/fundraiser/AchillAgriFestiveRun.

Anyone wishing to take part must register their vehicle between 3pm and 4pm, with a €20 entry fee. There will be a prize for the best-lit vehicle on the day.
