Organic farmers are being encouraged by the DEpartment to submit entries for the organic demonstration farm walks programme as the closing date of 30 August approaches.

The farm walks will take place in autumn and winter 2019, with further walks planned for summer 2020. The Department will give consideration to farmers with full organic status on some or all of their land. Farmers who have commenced conversion to organic are also eligible to take part.

The topics in focus at the walks will include:

  • Animal nutrition.
  • Animal welfare.
  • Crop rotation.
  • Soil fertility.
  • Farmers will be assessed on the following:

  • Enterprise type.
  • Previous product marketing experience promoting organic food.
  • Land uses on their farm i.e. grass grazed, grass silage, cereals, etc.
  • Livestock type and numbers.
  • ICBF data.
  • How to get involved

    Submissions are to be made through the Organic Control Body (OCB) which will then be assessed by the Department of Agriculture. All submissions are to be made by Friday 30 August.
