A Mercosur protest organised by French farm organisation, FNSEA and EU umbrella body for farm organisations and co-operatives, Copa-Cogeca, next week will be attended by IFA president Francie Gorman.
Speaking after day two of the IFA AGM, Gorman confirmed he will travel to the protest which will take place outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg where MEPs will meet next week.
“For the next phase of this campaign, we will be working in lockstep with our colleagues in Copa-Cogeca and our fellow farm organisations in Europe,” he said.

“We will be meeting the Irish MEPs while we are in Strasbourg next week. There are 720 MEPs in the Parliament, of which Ireland has 14, so we need to activate all farm organisations across Europe to lobby all MEPs,” Gorman said.
The second day of the IFA’s AGM was addressed by Ksenija Simovic, a trade expert with Copa-Cogeca and IFA Brussels director Liam MacHale.
It’s expected that there will be 1,000 tractors on the streets in Strasbourg to coincide with the plenary meeting of the European Parliament next week.
