It may officially be springtime but that hasn’t stopped wintry conditions gripping some parts of the country this week.

Met Éireann has forecast more snow for Wednesday as well as a weather warning for heavy rainfall.

Rain, sleet and snow will continue across parts of Leinster, Munster and east Ulster on Wednesday morning, with further rain here through the afternoon.

In eastern and southeastern coastal districts, with onshore breezes, the precipitation is likely to stay as rain or sleet, according to the national forecaster.

Around 2cm or 3cm of snow fell in some parts of the country, with larger amounts on high ground.

It will stay cold and windy with highs of 4 to 8 degrees, with fresh to strong north to northeast winds.

The weather will remain generally dry and bright across much of Connacht and Ulster for the day.

Further outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow in the east and south of the country tonight. Clearer skies elsewhere will lead to a widespread frost. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees in blustery northeasterly winds.

Meanwhile, a rainfall warning is in place for counties Dublin, Louth and Wicklow until 7am on Thursday morning.

Between 30mm to 50mm of heavy rain will fall, particularly on larger mountains.
