The 2022 grain harvest is setting records, with prices set to be €60-€100/t up on last year’s prices.

Spring barley, winter wheat and oilseed rape are yielding well, with the 2.2m tonne 2021 harvest set to be matched or exceeded.

Thus, the harvest’s value is likely to be up by €170m to €700m. It’s also the earliest harvest since 1984, with many growers finishing this weekend.

Growers will be relieved, having run up huge bills for inputs.

However, there is already concern for 2023 due to the high cost base of inputs, particularly fertiliser.
