Martin Stapleton is the IFA’s new treasurer and national returning officer.

The Limerick dairy farmer emerged from a close contest involving Joe Brady and Thomas Cooney (both Cavan) and Mayo’s Padraig Joyce.

Stapleton now joins the IFA’s executive board with president Tim Cullinan, deputy president Brian Rushe, regional chairs Harold Kingston (Munster), Pat Murphy (Connacht), Nigel Reneghan (Ulster/North Leinster) and Tom Short (south Leinster) and director general Damian McDonald, on the IFA’s inner decision-making body.

Stapleton was chair of the farm business committee for four years.
