A total of 27 lots smashed the €10,000 benchmark, with demand at its height in the four-year-old sector. The figures for the age group impressively illustrated an average of €7,488 (€6,738 in 2022) together with a clearance 74% from 72%.
The opening session of older stock also fared well to close with a significant upturn in average to €7,753 (€6,558 in 2022), although at 69% (76%) the clearance dipped slightly. The biggest turnaround however, came in the final three-year-old division where in a major contrast to last year, the figures revealed a rewarding clearance of 75% (51%) together with an average of €4,283 (€4,616). Yielding its influence throughout, the online platform was busy and proved responsible for 44 individual sales.

Jason Higgins is no stranger to sale-topping honours, and his undoubted pinhooking skills were evident again when his four-year-old imported son of Henkie headed the edition at a healthy €33,000. Bearing his traditional slick production, the beautifully produced gelding was sourced unbroken in Holland about six months ago and, by the dressage and show jumping sire Henkie, was out of Walk On Top (Idocus). Unsurprisingly, there was massive interest in the four-year-old, but while two bidders battled it out on site, they were finally beaten by the online presence of American show jumper Rich Fellars who, it was later disclosed, was buying on behalf of an amateur client.
Older horses
Always a solid sector, Tuesday’s session of older stock delivered plenty of notable prices including 12 five-figure returns. Among these was James Connors Smyth’s jumping mare, AF With Class who, having impressed more than a few, was knocked down to the UK based Carron Nicol (European Sport Horses) for €24,000. A multiple buyer over the three days, Nicol was especially delighted with this nine-year-old who, bred by MJ Kavanagh was by Classe VDL out of AFS Juno (Puissance). Sold to dissolve a partnership, she carried a smart jumping record in classes up to 1.30, and was highly rated by her rider.
Kicking the day off in good style, William Dalton’s well-related Tyson’s Pride also sold well to Co Meath rider Karen Healy for €20,000. The winner of 43 SJI points under Ben Crawford, the Jackie Lee-bred daughter of Tyson was out of Captain Pride (Captain Clover) and was a half-sister to the Jessica Burke ridden international performer Kashino (1.45m).
As show jumpers with form continued to reap the rewards, Keith Wilson’s attractive son of Cornet Obolensky out of the good mare Jump The Q, realised €15,500. Another bound for England, and the winner of 12 SJI points, this well-related grey was snapped up by equine chiropractor Mark Windsor on behalf of his partner Cath Evans.
Four-year-oldsS
Sale topper aside, Wednesday’s prices for four-year-olds largely mirrored those of the previous day, A further 12 horses achieved the €10,000 mark, the best of which at €17,000 was Gabriel Slattery’s unnamed gelding by Castlelawn Captain Junior out of Kinlough Cruise (Courage). Scottish event buyer Tom Clarke had to battle hard to secure this one, while his compatriot Kirsty Hogg later accounted for Jim Power’s Glountane Cobra D for €16,000. Bred by Tim Brosnan the latter, by Cobra 18 out of Arko D (Arko 111).
Three-year-olds
Turning the tables on the figures from the past few years to deliver the best clearance (76%) of the three days, demand for three-year-olds was lively if not spectacular. As buyers remained at ringside until close of play, the day’s best returns came from two of the last lots through the ring. Realising €12,800 and €11,400 respectively, the former figure fell to Declan McGarry’s daughter of Ganesh Hero Z out of Air Bourne (Kannan). British event horse owner JD Miles signed this athletic filly, while Askeaton show jumper Robyn Moran accounted for Liam O’Meara’s well-related gelding CSF Corey by Cohinoor VDL out of CSF Fair Exchange (Flipper D’Elle).
Ponies
Although the pony clearance was lower than usual 51% buyers were plentiful for the better individuals. One who did stand out was Ivor Broderick’s six-year-old KMS Kiltormer who, realising the top price €10,800 was knocked down to Kieran Egan on behalf of English buyer Fiona Wingrove.
