“A substantial and no doubt costly” fire broke out at Meade Potato Company, Lobinstown, Navan, Co Meath, yesterday morning, shortly after eight o’clock. In a statement released to the Irish Farmers Journal, Meade Potato Company confirmed no one was injured and the fire was contained quickly in an isolated area at the plant.
“A substantial and no doubt costly” fire broke out at Meade Potato Company, Lobinstown, Navan, Co Meath, yesterday morning, shortly after eight o’clock.
In a statement released to the Irish Farmers Journal, Meade Potato Company confirmed no one was injured and the fire was contained quickly in an isolated area at the plant.
The company said early indications are that the fire may have begun in a fridge compartment in the company’s potato division.
As a result, the potato division was evacuated for the day. However, business resumed as normal today.
The company also said that the biggest disruption was to the IT systems, as vital cables were housed in a hub close to the fire. However, the company’s communication contingency plan has enabled the company to keep connected with their suppliers and their customers.
Meade Potato Company also thanked the Navan and Nobber Fire Department for its quick response.
