Overall, markets are more positive this week and some reports are outlining the prospect of a deal between the US and China as some of the reason for this, as the positive lift in soybean markets flows into other markets.

Last week, the International Grains Council increased its global wheat production forecast for 2025/2026 by 8.8m tonnes.

It should be noted that all prices in this report are dried unless otherwise stated.

MARS bulletin

The European Commissions crop monitoring report placed grain maize yields in Europe down 4% from the five-year average.

On winter planting, the report stated: “Favourable weather and field conditions from France to Poland and from Scandinavia to Italy have supported timely sowing, with good emergence and early crop development.”

“In contrast, excessive wetness in parts of Bulgaria and Romania delayed winter cereal sowings, while, in Portugal, Spain and parts of eastern Croatia and Hungary, the sowing of winter crops has been delayed due to continuously dry soils. Uniform crop emergence in these regions will require rainfall arriving soon that, indeed, is likely to occur in the coming weeks.”

Oilseed rape

The Matif oilseed rape price for November increased significantly. On Friday it closed at €469.25/t, up €7/t in the week.

By Tuesday night, that price had increased dramatically to €482.50/t. The November 2026 price closed at €468.75/t on Tuesday.

As oilseed rape prices rise, farmers should consider selling some forward. Look at your costs and decide a profitable price to sell at.

Rising oil prices were most likely contributing to this increase. On Wednesday afternoon, the November 2025 price was €482.50/t. The November 2026 price was €468.75/t.

The July price for Free-On-Board (FOB) Creil malting barley increased in recent weeks. It was at €179/t three weeks ago and €185/t this week.
