The sharp losses incurred early this week were stemmed on Wednesday as grain markets steadied somewhat, with a slight rebound in some prices.
Europe
On the Euronext exchange in Paris, futures prices for cereals made a slight recovery from the declines at the beginning of the week, while rapeseed continued to be steady.
Wheat for May 2016 delivery rose by €1/t to settle at €189/t, while May 2017 wheat futures rose slightly to just under €195/t.
Maize futures were steady to improving. June 2016 futures were flat at €175/t, while maize for June 2017 delivery gained by over €3/t to finish at €182/t.
Rapeseed continued its steady progress from the beginning of the week. May 2016 rapeseed increased by €1/t to end Wednesday’s trade at €377/t, while May 2017 rapeseed gained €2/t to finish at €365/t.
Chicago
On the Chicago exchange (CBOT), the market finally steadied after the sharp decline in prices recorded during trade on Monday and Tuesday.
SRW wheat for December 2015 delivery gained by over $1/t to settle at $182/t (€170/t), while December 2016 SRW wheat was flat at $192/t (€179/t).
Maize futures were also steadier. December 2015 maize futures increased by $1/t to settle at $143/t (€133/t), while maize for December 2016 delivery gained marginally to end Wednesday’s session at $154/t (€144/t).
