Comments made by Mario Draghi about Eurozone inflation targets helped the single currency rally somewhat yesterday against the US dollar and sterling. Cereal prices in Paris were slightly back as a result.
Europe
On the Euronext exchange in Paris (MATIF), wheat for May 2016 delivery was back slightly to just over €180/t, while May 2017 delivered wheat was also relatively steady, finishing Monday’s trade at €191/t.
Maize (corn) futures were also slightly back during yesterday’s trade in Paris. June 2016 maize was down slightly to below €174/t, while June 2017 maize futures lost €1/t to finish at €183/t.
Rapeseed futures actually rallied during Monday’s trade in Paris. May 2016 delivered rapeseed gained almost €3/t to finish just over €375/t, while May 2017 rapeseed also gained €3/t to settle just over €370/t.
Chicago
On the Chicago exchange (CBOT), grain prices improved somewhat. The Chicago exchange has finished offering December futures contracts, so we will be reporting May 2016 and May 2017 contracts from now on.
SRW wheat for May 2016 delivery gained $1/t to finish Monday’s session in Chicago at $183/t (€167/t), while May 2017 SRW wheat also increased in price by $1/t to settle just below the $199/t (€180/t) mark.
US maize (corn) prices were also improving during Monday’s trade. May 2016 maize gained almost $2/t to settle at $151/t (€137/t), while maize for May 2017 delivery increased by $1/t to finish at $163/t (€148/t).
