A 64.2ac farm with a top-class cattle yard is on the market near Knock in Co Mayo.

The farm is at Cuilatinny and it’s being sold by private treaty by Paul Lafferty Ltd based in Castlerea, Co Roscommon. The asking price is €600,000.

This is a well-designed, clean cattle yard. The shed was re-roofed with prepainted sheeting and so is maintenance free.

This farm is located just outside Knock, Co Mayo, off the N17. The land is made up of 45ac of good-quality grazing/silage land plus 19.2ac of established forestry.

The grazing land is laid out in six main, regularly shaped fields and is well fenced.

Forestry

The forestry includes 16.38ac, of which 80% is Sitka Spruce and 20% is Larch planted in 2017, eligible for premium payments of €2,831/year for the next six years.

There is a headgate at the end of the chute and a raised walkway running alongside.

The balance of 2.86ac is Sitka Spruce planted in 1993. Auctioneer Paul Lafferty said that the forestry has been well established and managed.

Farmyard

The farmyard is well designed with a beef fattening shed and a good handling unit alongside. The six-bay double-sided slatted shed can house up to 80 adult cattle.

The end gate stops cattle from backing out of the chute. This is an efficient unit.

There is a separate mill and two meal silos. The shed is in good condition. It was reroofed in recent years with prepainted sheeting. There are plenty of ventilation openings to keep stock healthy.

However, wire mesh has been used to make the shed bird proof.

The mesh allows ventilation but keeps out birds.

The handling unit was designed with safety and efficiency in mind. It has a long chute with a raised walkway running alongside. There is a backing gate at one end of the chute and a headgate at the other.

The yard also has a machinery and tractor shed and a farm office. There is mains water and a farm well.
