Auctioneer David Quinn, Carnew and Gorey, made it two out of two when he successfully sold two parcels of land in the Gorey/Oulart region under the hammer at last week’s public auction. First up was a 91-acre non-residential farm at Ballinagran Lower & Ballylusk, Killenagh, Gorey, Co Wexford. With minimal interest expressed in the entire, David proceeded to offer the farm in two separate lots which attracted a total of four local bidders. First up was the farmyard standing on circa 47 acres. After a couple of rounds of bidding, this lot was declared on the market and sold at €300,000 to two local farmers. The second lot comprising 44 acres eventually went to the market at €220,000 and sold under the hammer for €255,000 to a local farmer. This gave a combined total of €555,000 or an average of €6,100/acre.

€12,600/acre for 32 acres near Oulart

On the same day, David also offered an attractive 32-acre parcel at Kilcormac, Oulart, Co Wexford. Belonging to the same owner as the 91 acres near Killenagh, this land would be regarded as “excellent free-draining ground” which was clearly reflected in the €12,600/acre price tag. This property was split by the road, with circa 12 acres located directly across from the remaining 20 acres. After the first round of bidding, the 12 acres was bid to €150,000 while the 20 acres peaked at €210,000. This gave a combined total of €360,000. With that, bidding for the entire opened at €365,000 and with the help of two main parties, the sale price arrived at €400,000. With no further movement on either of the two individual lots, David declared the property on the market in its entirety at €400,000 and soon after, dropped the hammer at €405,000 to a local dairy farmer. This works out at €12,600/acre – well ahead of the €10,000/acre guide price.
