Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed has issued a warning to farmers and contractors to keep farm safety in mind during silage season.

"It’s that time of year again – silage season. As you begin to make your preparations for harvest, I just want you to keep safety at the core of your activities.

"Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, there are now far more children on farms than there would normally be at this time of the year.

"I urge you, in terms of your silage cutting operations, please, please be vigilant around children on farmyards."

"There are also a lot more people walking on country roads, people cycling, people social distancing. I urge you to slow down and be careful," he said.
