Three agricultural shows scheduled for this coming weekend have been cancelled.
The Dealer hears that the Riverstown show in Sligo has been called off due to high levels of rainfall over the last fortnight. The annual show, which was due to be held on Saturday, is normally in a site beside the local community park. The chair of the show, Michael Harte, said the “field is in a mess”.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to loyal sponsors, exhibitors and all who come to support us, but look forward to seeing you all again in 2017,” reads a statement on the show website.

Moving down south, the Drimoleague show in Cork, which was scheduled for this Sunday, has also been cancelled. I understand that it was called off primarily for financial pressures. Similarly, the committee at Carnew show announced last month that its 2016 show, set for Saturday 16 July, was not going ahead due to “financial contraints and a decline in volunteers”.
