The national western stock show is currently taking place in Denver, Colorado, however following this year’s event the site will undergo massive changes. The entire redevelopment of the site sees a combined spend of $765 million over the next four years. First to see the changes are the stock yards, so the 113th show is aptly named the “year of the yards”.

The entire redevelopment of the site sees a combined spend of $765 million over the next four years. First to see the changes are the stock yards, so the 113th show is aptly named the “year of the yards”.
The stock yards was one of the first features of the show when the show established back in 1906, where breeders could display and sell their stock. This tradition is still carried on today with over 250 pens of cattle on show. However big changes are on the way with this, the last year the yards will be seen in their current layout.
Two years of construction will see the yards increase to 800 pens with water and power throughout the whole area. Also added to the yards is a state of the art events centre which will incorporate a new sales arena, wash buildings and much more. The new site will also allow all pens to be removed for parking so that the centre to be used for anything that’s required.
Following this, the following two years see the building of a brand new equestrian centre and livestock centre. The equestrian centre will see 800 horse stalls and a 220,000 square foot arena. Similarly the livestock centre will extend to over 500,000 square feet with a 5,000 seat arena.
Is it time a permanent grounds was put in place in Ireland? Maybe not at the same spend though.
