Precision Microbes, based in Dublin, is a company specialising in biological and biome-focused innovation, particularly in the agricultural sector.
The company specialises in propagation techniques for beneficial microbes, which the owners say have the ability to “transform” plant and animal health.
By combining science with advanced technology, Precision Microbes aims to unlock the full potential of biology to reshape sustainability and health in agriculture.
Their recently introduced probiotic and postbiotic liquid formulations are going down really well with farmers and professionals in animal health, particularly within Ireland’s veterinary sector.
The manufacturers say that these innovations not only improve animal performance but also significantly reduce the reliance on antibiotics, thereby promoting long-term health benefits.
The company has recognised the crucial role of gut health in calves and other production animals.
Building on their success in calf health over the past three years, they are now extending their research to the gut microbiome of cows.
Research
This year, Precision Microbes has partnered with the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) to explore new research areas for the application of beneficial microbes.
Currently, it is conducting trials on three farms, treating over 2,000 cows with their product.
The trials involve tracking various metrics such as rumination, production, and fertility, with results so far proving to be promising.
“We are optimistic about the progress we’ve made,” said Tommy Heffernan, a veterinary consultant with the company. “We plan to launch our cow-focused hindgut product in the coming months in both Ireland and the UK. Additionally, we have collaborated with Terra NutriTech to explore dosing systems options on the trial farms, areas where Precision Microbes can make a substantial impact.”
This year, Precision Microbes will feature in the Innovations Arena at the National Ploughing Championships, where it will share its trial findings with farmers, industry professionals and customers.
