John Glenn’s first song with the Mainliners in 40 years
Four decades have elapsed since John Glenn last recorded a song with The Mainliners.
The release of his brand new single, Roses in the Snow, sees John return to the sound that catapulted him into the limelight back in 1975 when he joined the legendary band and recorded his first hit song, Sunnyside of the Mountain.
It is fairly rare in these times for the entire band to play on any recording around the country but we decided that’s exactly what we needed to do
Some months ago, the man from Crossmaglen was asked to rejoin The Mainliners for a series of shows around the country. Bandleader Henry McMahon felt it was time for John to go back to the studio and record a new song with the band.
“We wanted to capture that magic Mainliners sound and I am delighted with the whole production,” says John. “We recorded the single with Dessie Sheerin in Shed Studios, Athlone.
“It is fairly rare in these times for the entire band to play on any recording around the country but we decided that’s exactly what we needed to do.
“Seamus McMahon, Harry Conlon, Ronnie Duffy, Ginger Morgan, Henry McMahon and Martin Campbell all feature on Roses in the Snow and I think anyone who hears it will instantly recognise the famous Mainliners sound.
“It is a special thrill for me to have that great sound behind me that thrilled Big Tom followers all through the years. Big Tom was a hero to all of us and that will never change,” says John.
When Stacey comes around
Wexford singer Stacey Breen has just endorsed her fondness for American country legend Vince Gill by recording one of his big songs.
Her new release, Whenever You Come Around, is a song she took a shine to the first time she heard it.
Stacey, 17, has recorded a few singles since she made her debut at the age of 14.
She has already toured with Philomena Begley, Ray Lynam, Louise Morrissey, Kathy Durkin and others and is delighted with the response to her latest release.
The song was recorded in Temple Lane Studios in Dublin.
