The past year has seen the Belclare perform well at sales throughout the country.
As one of the stronger maternal breeds, farmers are drawn to the fact that the breed is easy to care for, extremely hardy, prolific, and also has good maternal traits.
Top winners
Again this year, the society is showing some of the top-class prizewinners from shows around the country at the National Ploughing Championships.
The Belcare Sheep Society, like many of the other breed societies will be located at LS 20 in the sheep tunnel, which can be found in the livestock section of the stands.
Over the course of the three days of the National Ploughing Championships, representatives and members of the society will provide information to farmers interested in purebreds and to commercial farmers with an interest in the breed.
The Belclare Sheep Society has had a series of successful sales throughout the country in recent months.
The next sales are in Roscommon on 27 September and Kilkenny on 29 September; this is the second sale to be held in Kilkenny this year. The final sale will take place in Carnaross on 7 October. The majority of rams on offer at the sales with be STAP-eligible.
