When did you set up your business and why?
Stories by Ola Ceramics Studio officially launched in 2022, but my journey with ceramics began back in 2016 when it started as a hobby.
Over the years, my passion for it grew and I decided to turn it into a business.
To further enhance my skills in ceramics, I completed a craft production course at Coláiste Dhúlaigh in Dublin and pursued various other courses to upskill and refine my craft.
Can you explain your process?
I get my inspiration from the beautiful Irish coastline and sea colours. Using mainly hand-building techniques or slip casting, I shape each piece with specially selected stoneware clay.
Afterwards, I apply a mixture of glazes to create a serene sea view-inspired effect. The creations go through two, sometimes three, kiln firings to achieve their perfect form. I take pride in crafting ceramics with a perfectly imperfect feel that reflects the real beauty of nature.
What is your best seller?
The Coastline range pieces are the most popular items in my ceramic collection.
People love them for their beachy vibes and the way they remind them of the sea. They're not just beautiful, they're also tough and can be used every day.
What is it about your business that brings you joy?
What makes me really happy is sharing my love for ceramics with others. Seeing my creations make people smile and enhance their dining experiences is amazing.
I feel proud knowing that my pieces not only make homes look beautiful but also bring a bit of nature and the sea into people's lives.
Plus, I run workshops from my kitchen studio in Ardgillan Castle, where friends and family can have fun together, get creative with clay and make their own special pieces.
It's a unique and joyful way to spend time with loved ones and discover the magic of ceramics.
What is your plan for the next year?
My goal is to reach more people in Ireland and beyond. I want to work with new stores here and explore collaboration opportunities with restaurants.
Sharing the beauty of Irish craftsmanship worldwide is my dream and I'm excited to work hard to make it happen!
What advice would you give a start-up business?
For any new business, my advice is to follow your passion and connect with your community. See challenges as chances to learn and grow.
Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and other artists to create a supportive network. Always focus on quality and sustainability to make your business thrive and last.
