Michelin introduces hard-surface tyre
Gone are the days when farm machines spent most of their time travelling in fields and on soft surfaces. Now, because farms are bigger and more far-flung, farmers are spending almost as much time travelling on roads and concrete farmyards as on soft ground.
Responding to changes in the levels of road use for farm machines, Michelin has introduced the BibLoad Hard Surface radial tyre.
A key feature of the new tyre, and the one most obvious to the eye, is its patented, diamond-shaped, multi-directional tread blocks, which provide no fewer than six different grip angles with facets that make the block more rigid, regardless of tread depth.
Another key feature is its reinforced sidewalls that provide more resistance to cuts and scrapes.
Developed to complement the Michelin XMCL range, it is claimed to deliver improved driving comfort and reduced noise.
Launched in sizes 400/70 R20 and 460/70 R24, others will follow to accompany changes in equipment design.
SAME introduces new models
Same has announced new engines, updated cab and new styling for the latest range of Explorer and Dorado tractor ranges.
The key feature of the new models is the introduction of a modular engine, the Tier 4i FarMotion engine, which has been developed and built by SDF.
This engine is available in three- and four-cylinder configuration with a cylinder capacity of 962cc.
The three-cylinder engine is a 2.9-litre unit rated at 97hp, while the four-cylinder one is 3.9 litres in capacity and rated at 107hp.
Same claims that a new cylinder head design improves diesel combustion.
Exhaust emissions, which meet the Tier 4i requirements, are controlled by a diesel oxidation catalyst and external exhaust gas recirculation.
This week’s machine of the week on the Irish Farmers Journal advertising website www.toplink.ie is this 5t stoning hopper/cart from Barry White, Abbeyshrule, Longford, and ready for land drainage work with dry ground prevailing.
