In this week’s Youngstock Podcast, Gary Abbott chats to Melany Rourke, a South African native who travelled to Ireland six years ago to pursue her engineering studies at MTU (IT Tralee) to only later land a full-time position as manufacturing engineer with McHale.
Originally from a farming family in Zimbabwe, Melany talks about her families struggles of being evicted from their family farm, to starting out a new life in Botswana which later allowed her to recognise her passion for engineering.
Melany discusses, everything from farming and growing up in South Africa, moving to Ireland to study at MTU and how that led to a full-time job with the world-renowned brand that is McHale. We get an insight into what Melany’s role looks like from day to day and hear whether or not she intends to return to South Africa one day.
