The Irish Angus Cattle Society hosted its inaugural sale in Cashel, Co Tipperary, on Friday, with trade topping at €2,700.
The sale was originally planned as a live auction but ended up as a private tender sale due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Buyers brought their bulls to the sale but the left the grounds with a reserve on them. The auctioneer then sold the bulls to prospective buyers from the pen.
In total, 35 bulls attended out of the 42 catalogued, with 12 meeting trade. These 12 bulls saw an average price of €2,300.
Top price
Securing the top price of €2,700 was Tom Mulligan’s Clooncarne Solar Eclipse. This 12-month-old bull was sired by Rawburn Boss Hogg and out of former female all-Ireland champion Clooncarne Jenny.
Solar Eclipse carries five stars on both the terminal and replacement indices, with a calving figure of just 1.9% for beef cows.
Securing the sale topper was Paul McMahon of the Sunlodge herd in Co Limerick.
