The Cork Summer Show was held over the weekend with the Angus bull Cheeklaw Jake Eric awarded the overall beef championship. This five-year-old bull was brought out by Mogeely based breeders Albert and Jennifer DeCogan. Sired by Cardona Proud Punch, this bull is no stranger to success having won numerous championships over the past three summers. Awarding the championship on the day was John and Megan Searson who commented on how the bull was an excellent representation of the breed.
The duo selected the Charolais champion as the reserve overall champion. Grangwood Only You, is a stylish November 2018 born bull and was brought out by Jerry O’Keeffe and family. Sired by Whitcliffe James, he is out of the homebred Grangwood Miss.
The Charolais breed also took the top honours in the much anticipated Munster agricultural show society interbreed junior heifer championship. Taking first prize of €400 was the Ryan family from Thurles with Goldstar Ossan Et. This September 2018 born heifer is sired by the homebred Goldstar Hugo 2 ET and out of the show cow Goldstar Jamaique. This class attracted one of the strongest entries of the day and was again judged by the Searson father and daughter outfit.
It proved a special day for young handler Christopher Stanley who claimed top spot in the show's young handler class for under 16’s. This achievement was even more special as it was Christopher’s third year on the trot placing first in the class. In the senior handler class, Shannon Kinahen emerged victorious.
