The Irish Limousin Cattle Society was back in action again this week in Tullamore, having held its premier sale in Elphin just one week previous.
With the sale so close to the premier, numbers were small, with 14 bulls and two heifers on offer. A total of 10 bulls sold on the day to average €3,035, while both heifers sold to average €1,975.
Last year’s Tullamore sale was cancelled due to coronavirus. The male average is up €370 on the 2019 sale, but this is for seven fewer bulls sold.
Leading the prices was a call of €4,900 for Oldtown Paddy. Bred and exhibited by William and Brendan Hogan from Thurles, Co Tipperary, Paddy is a son of successful AI bull Ampertaine Commander, with Elderberry Galahad on the dam’s side. With five stars for both the terminal and replacement indices, he was secured by Roscommon-based Liam Ford.
Second-best was Kerry-based Sarah McElligott, who sold Shannon Pirate at €3,900. This July 2019-born bull is a son of Hamac and the homebred Lino daughter Shannon Alice. With fve stars on most traits, he was the pick of local farmer James Murphy.
McElligott also sold Shannon Porter at €3,050. This bull was a son of Engy, with On-Dit and Ronick Hawk also in the lineage. Again boasting an impressive page of stars, he was chosen by Westmeath-based Fergus Geraghty.
Matching this price was Limerick breeder Pat Sheahan with his bull Drumbanny Punch.
Usse, Queenshead Altea and Wilodge Vantastic all feature in this bull’s pedigree and successful bidder was Kilkenny farmer Edward Conway.
