On a trip to the UK, the US Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue met with Environment Secretary Michael Gove “to build on the UK’s close and constructive relationship with the US”. According to DEFRA’s blog, Gove and Perdue spoke about the importance of maintaining high animal welfare standards in any future trade deal. Over £2.1 billion worth of UK food and drink is shipped to the US every year and Gove says he wants to increase this.
“As two of the world’s leading agricultural nations, the UK and US have a close and constructive relationship built on thriving trade and shared expertise,” Gove said after the meeting.
