Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon has said he will ensure that the ranking and selection criteria in the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS) will be kept under review.

In tranche 10 of the scheme, 60% selection was applied under the Animal Welfare Nutrient Storage Scheme following a surge in applications.

Over 63,000 applications have been received under the suite of schemes available since the scheme began.

“It was necessary to apply a 60% selection to tranche 10 applications under the Animal Welfare Nutrient Storage Scheme (AWNSS) due to the unprecedented success of the individual schemes within TAMS 3, while working within overall budgetary constraints,” the Minister said in response to a parliamentary question from Galway east TD Albert Dolan.

“A total of 2,076 applications were received under the AWNSS in tranche 10. Following ranking and selection of all eligible applications, a total of 1,481 were selected, while 765 applications were not selected.

“Those selected will now undergo further technical checks before approvals issue to all eligible applicants, allowing farmers to proceed with their investments.

“I am satisfied that the current scoring system is the best mechanism for ensuring that funding is targeted at the most appropriate enterprises. I will also ensure that the system continues to be reviewed on a regular basis,” he said.
