During the lambing and calving time, Alex Brown from Rockcorry, Co Monaghan, always thought that it was a nuisance having to put on a trailer to move a ewe and lambs to another shed or out to the field.
He always felt more use could be made of a transport box, so he set to and made a crate with two doors and a door on top. It is made with inch-and-a-quarter box section and two-inch mesh as seen in the photo.
`It can be put together in three sections or in one pie`-ce and held together with hand-tightened bolts. He says “it will take a ewe and two lambs very comfortably and is very handy for taking a calf in from the field, and the cow will see the calf and follow on”. “It is also useful for taking in cut sticks and is used all the year round,” explained Alex.
