According to the latest forecasts from AHDB and EBLEX, prospects for the UK lamb crop are positive for the year ahead.
Production in 2014 was 298,200t, with 107,700t exported. Production is expected to stabilise in 2016.
Overall, UK sheep meat exports in 2014 were at similar levels to the previous year but with the weak euro, exports to the EU may be a challenge in 2015. Exports are forecast at 111,400 for this year.
The UK is our second biggest importer of sheep meat and key competitor in the sheep trade. If production in the UK rises, it could add more competition at peak marketing times.
