There are plenty of tillage events coming up over the next while.
The first of these is the National Potato Conference on Tuesday 22 November in the City North Hotel in Co Meath.
The conference theme is 'Potatoes – protecting your business for the future” and it is organised by the Irish Farmers’ Association in association with Teagasc and Bord Bia.
The main conference agenda will examine consumer trends and offer advice on potato production as well as storage. As always, there will be a trade show on the day. The event kicks off with registration at 9am.
Winter conference
On Thursday 1 December, the Irish Tillage and Land Use Society will host its winter conference in the Clanard Court Hotel, Athy, Co Kildare, with registration from 9.45am.
Efficient nitrogen use and the use of liquid nitrogen and urea will take up the first session. Presentations will be made by Louth farmer Gareth Culligan and Andrew O’Regan from South East Technological University.
Rory Deverell from StoneX will describe tools to take some risk out of selling grain and there will be plenty of time for questions.
In the afternoon, Bill Callanan from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Teagasc tillage adviser Ciarán Hickey will discuss the direction of future policy for tillage farmers and the event will conclude with a panel discussion.
Tillage conference
The National Tillage Conference returns to an in-person event at the Lyrath Convention Centre, Co Kilkenny, on Wednesday 25 January, kicking off at 9am.
The focus this year will be on cereal disease management, details of a barley yellow dwarf virus survey and insights on viral transmission and integrated weed management.
There will be a look at future added value opportunities in the plant protein space and there will be snapshots into some research that is under way at present.
Some of this event will be available to watch online.
