The option to dispose of empty agrochemical spray cans for recycling could be under threat because some farmers did not ensure they were properly rinsed before presenting them to a recycling centre. Recent crosschecks at recycling centres found cans that were not adequately rinsed and others that were not rinsed at all.

This activity threatens the non-hazardous classification of agrochemical containers and the recycling option could be withdrawn. Farmers are urged to ensure that the correct washing procedure is followed to protect this recycling option.
