Anglesboro Vintage Club and their supporters are gearing up for the latest renewal of their popular vintage tractor run on Friday 27 December.

Now in its 14th year, the tractor run has raised thousands of euro annually for the local community and charities far and wide.

This year, the chosen charities are the Irish Kidney Association and the Mitchelstown-based charity Special Friends.

This is a voluntary group run by parents in Mitchelstown, which offers practical assistance and support to the families of children with special needs.

Mike McGrath, one of the vintage club’s founding members, told the Irish Farmers Journal that both charities are close to the club’s heart and they would love people to turn out in force on the day.

Funds

“We raised over €6,000 for charity last year and in the past we raised €40,000 for Milford Hospice with a round-the-country trip on two Model Ts donated by a deceased member of our club,” he explained.

The club has around 25 members in all, ranging in age from 35 to 70.

“Some of the youngest lads driving big machines now started out cycling pedal tractors at our first event,” he laughed. “We’re like a GAA club, we have to make sure we keep the pedal tractors going to bring on the next generation of tractor drivers!”

The club has a range of attractions organised for the day, with drivers well catered for with soup and burgers and an auction, with silage, straw, timber and coal up for grabs to the highest bidder.

So if you fancy a day out admiring or driving vintage tractors at the foot of the Galtee Mountains, get to Anglesboro hall to sign in by 10.30am.
