BBC Northern Ireland promises to improve farming coverage
After coming under criticism for dropping its long running Farm Gate slot on Radio Ulster, the BBC has announced plans to refresh its farming coverage.
According to the BBC, the enhanced coverage will include the appointment of a specialist Agriculture and Environmental Affairs Correspondent.
BBC Ulster will continue to host farming news slots in Good Morning Ulster at 6.40am and Evening Extra at 6.15pm. They are also planning a five-day farming weather forecast, an improved Saturday morning farming programme and more online coverage.
The BBC were lobbied heavily by Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill, farm organisations and representatives from the Food and Drink sector in Northern Ireland for the continuation of agricultural coverage.

‘Farm Gate’ started as a stand-alone programme over 30 years ago, but was taken into a regular slot in ‘Good Morning Ulster’ and ‘Good Evening Ulster’ in the past decade.
The changes will come into effect from Tuesday 7 April.
