Camera at the Mart: positive start to sales in Corrin

Weather led to a cold start in Corrin Mart on Tuesday last, but trade remained positive.

A 100% clearance across just under 180 cattle was recorded, with cull cows accounting for 50 head of this.

Demand and price was hugely positive in the cull ring, as average price came to €2.70/kg, with all but three cows being of dairy origin. Cows sold between €2.22/kg and €2.80/kg.

Heifer numbers were low, with Angus- and Hereford-cross types between 500kg and 600kg most common. These lots averaged €3.79/kg, with a range of €3.75/kg to €3.91/kg.

Bullocks were more plentiful, with bullocks weighing between 400kg and 500kg selling to an average of €3.64/kg. Prices went from €3.47/kg for Friesian-crosses up to €4.02/kg for better continental types.

Bullocks between 500kg and 600kg were marginally sharper at €3.66/kg, while heavier bullocks above 600kg averaged €3.68/kg. These heavier lots sold at €3.49/kg for Friesian types, with low-600kg Hereford-crosses at €3.75/kg.

Twenty bull weanlings of mainly dairy origin met with good demand, averaging €4.70/kg. The top third of bulls sold to an average of €4.98/kg, with the bottom third averaging €4.50/kg. A small show of weanling heifers sold between €4.67/kg and €4.82/kg.
