On Friday last, Tullow Mart held a celebratory sale to mark 70 years, with over 450 cattle on offer.
The sale saw strong demand from factory agents, with quality cattle highly sought after.
Hereford- and Angus-cross bullocks and heifers sold for €3.90/kg to €4.10/kg, with €4.30/kg paid for well-fleshed, in-spec QA cattle. Forward continental cattle sold for €4.30/kg to €4.40/kg.
Despite poor weather, it was a very lively store trade, with mart manager Eric Driver putting this down to confidence.
Bullocks at 350kg sold for €5/kg to €5.50/kg, with €6/kg and above for some lots.
Bull weanling trade was primarily driven by farmer buyers, with quality 400kg bulls selling for €5/kg to €5.30/kg, with more traditional types and plainer continental bulls selling form €4.60/kg upwards.
There were just over 300 calves on offer, with strong demand for all types. Friesian bulls sold from €180 to a top of €350.
Hereford- and Angus-cross calves sold from €280 to €600 with continental-crosses selling for a top of €700.There was a fabulous trade for young continental cows, with over €4/kg achieved in many cases. Friesian feeding cows sold for €2/kg to €3.50/kg depending on age and weight.
