The big prices keep rolling in, as buyers pay top dollar for the top-end heifers on offer at Monday’s Carrick-on-Shannon Winter Fair weanling heifer sale, with 15 heifers so far selling for five figures.

Following on from her win in the Dovea Genetics calf bonanza on Sunday and winning class 40b, Frank Glynn's Limousin-cross heifer saw the gavel fall at €17,500 to a ringside buyer.

Sired by the AI company's renowned show calf producer Claddagh McCabe, the April-born heifer tipped the scales at 395kg to equate to a sale price of €44.30/kg.

Lot 391 was the property of Noel McSweeney, Co Cork. Despite being just a June-born heifer, this catchy daughter of Ampertaine Elgin clinched third prize in the under-350kg Limousin class on Sunday. From and Imperial-bred dam, the young heifer sold for €15,000 at 280kg (€53.57/kg).

Another heifer to hit €15,000 was Leitrim man Cian McGloing's Belgian Blue champion. Sired by Notaire and going back to bulls such as MBP and EPI, the classy black-coloured heifer born April 2025 was knocked down to an online buyer.

Cian also saw his Soloway View Dynamite-sired heifer sell for €12,600. Out of Cian’s famous and consistent Panda cow, the second-prizewinning heifer joins a host of other calves of a similar cross produced by the Leitrim man that have sold for five figures.

Lot 340 into the ring was another Claddagh McCabe daughter, this time from the stable of Sean Staunton, Manulla, Co Mayo. This young heifer born in June weighed in at 335kg before selling for €10,000.
