On Friday 28 October, The British Limousin Cattle Society’s Autumn Sale of bulls and heifers returned to Dungannon Farmers Market, Co. Tyrone. There was an entry of 53 bulls and 19 heifers at the annual event with a pre-sale show taking place on the morning, officiated by Thomas O’Brien.

Prices were up slightly from the May Day sale which took place earlier this year, with an average of £2,804 being achieved for bulls and an average of £1,956 for the heifers.

The reserve overall champion and senior male championship was awarded to the March 2021-born Carmorn Shishkin from C and F McAuley, Toomebridge, Co. Antrim who was one of two bulls to top the sale at 3,400gns. Shishkin is a son of Aultside Meanmachine and a homebred dam, Carmon Mammamia. Carmon Shishkin found his new home in Co. Tyrone with breeder George Campbell.

The second bull on the day to achieve a top price of 3,400gns was May 2021-born Claragh Supersonic from J and D Rainey, Kilrea, Co. Derry.

Supersonic is an Ampertaine Gigolo-sired bull and his dam, Claragh Lily is very well-known from her showing career where she was crowned the reserve overall champion and junior interbreed champion at Balmoral Show in 2016. Claragh Supersonic found his new home with Matthew Jordan of the Longhirst Herd, Northumberland, UK.

Again, from the herd of C and F McAuley, 1st prize winner, Carmorn Sammy, a February 2021-born bull sired by Whinfellpark Lomu sold for the second-highest price on the day at 3,300gns. Sammy is out of a homebred-cow, Carmorn Ophelia and sold to P and B Kelly from Cookstown, Co. Tyrone.

Selling for 3,000gns was first prize winner and intermediate champion Annadale Scairbh, an April 2021-born bull sired by Mereside Godolphin. Scairbh was bred by Chris Murray, Cullyhanna, Co. Down and was brought forward for sale Malachy Dillon from Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh and sold to Tyrone man, Philip Montgomery.

Also from Kilrea, Co. Derry, the Quinn brothers offered the May 2021-born bull, Killydunn Supreme for sale. The Cloughead Umpire-bred bull with a predominantly French pedigree out of a Craigatoke Hayley dam sold for 3,000gns to Mervyn Millar from Co. Antrim.

Ruairi McCloskey from Dungiven, Co. Derry offered for sale his homebred February 2021-born bull Owenbeg Simba who sold to Keith Smyth, Co. Tyrone. Simba who was a second prize winner in the pre-sale show is sired by Ampertaine Elgin out of a homebred-cow, Owenbeg Orla and sold for 2,900gns.

Aghadolgan Superboy who was tapped out as the reserve junior male champion for Raymond Savage, Drumahoe, Londonderry and found his new home with William Harkness in Co. Antrim when he sold for 2,700gns. Superboy is a May 2021-born bull sired by Plumtree Fantastic out of the homebred-Aghadolgan Filly.

Craigatoke Sugerplum 2,000gns./ Kathryn Shaw

In the female section, the trade topper was Marty and Ronan McGurk’s May 2021-born heifer, Birchwood Sclubseven from Co. Tyrone. This homebred heifer is sired Ampertaine Majestic and is out of Craigatoke Jojo. She was knocked down to Peter McNally from Cookstown at 2,150gns.

Craigatoke Sugarplum from the herd of Martin Conway, Plumbridge, Co. Tyrone was the second highest priced female on the day as she went on to sell for 2,000gns to Adrian McCartney, Ballymena, Co. Antrim. Sugerplum is out of Craigatoke Onelove and is sired by Gleneagle Pascal.

Adrian McCartney made his second purchase of the day when he took home Slieve Spicegirl. Spicegirl was offered for sale from the herd of John and Shane McGeehan, Fivemiletown, Co. Tyrone and sold for 1,800gns.

Selling for 1,500gns on the day was Aghadolgan Sanette from Raymond Savage, Drumahoe, Londonderry.
