Factories are busy finalising supplies for Christmas week, with a high percentage of throughput supplied by regular or specialist finishers who are securing higher prices.
Beef prices remain solid, with a high percentage of steers and heifers trading on a base of €4/kg and €4.10/kg respectively. Demand from factories keen to source cattle for Christmas week means sellers with significant numbers on hand are in a good negotiating position. Higher prices are reported for those trading at the top of the market and moving cattle next week. IFA livestock chair Angus Woods said deals are being done at base of €4.05/kg for steers and as high as €4.10/kg over the Christmas and new year period. Deals at a €4.15/kg base for heifers are also on offer.
