Raheenleigh farmers who are participating in the Blackstairs Farming Futures Project, supported by 25 volunteers, picked over 50 bags of rubbish in their commonage, an area of outstanding beauty in the Blackstairs Mountains, which is both a tourist attraction and active farming country.

Tom Jordan, who organised the collection of litter for the Raheenleigh Commonage Community Group, talking to hillwalkers who complimented the group for their initiative.

The Raheenleigh farmers were joined in the effort by Tullow Hill Walkers club and local volunteers, with Carlow County Council arranging for the removal of the collected rubbish.

The Blackstairs Farming Futures Project aims to get the farmers who own the commonages to work together to improve the quality of the environment on the Blackstairs Mountain and to engage with the broader community.
