A status orange rainfall warning has been issued for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Wexford, Cork, Kerry and Waterford as Storm Francis approaches.

There is also a concurrent status yellow wind and rainfall warning for other parts of the country, while the UK Met Office has issued a rain warning for the Northern Ireland.

Warning

The orange warning will take effect from 9pm Monday 24 August until 5pm the following day.

Met Éireann said: “Intense rainfall associated with Storm Francis is expected at times Monday night and Tuesday, leading to accumulations of 40mm to 60mm (higher values in mountainous areas). The most intense rainfall is expected to ease off in southern counties during Tuesday morning. Some flash flooding likely.”

Yellow warning

The yellow wind warning is in place for Munster, Dublin, Wexford and Wicklow, with very stormy conditions and gusts of up to 110km/hr expected, but possibly higher in some areas.

The yellow rain warning is in place for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary.

Up to 50mm of rain is expected with surface flooding. The wind warning will be in effect from 6am on Tuesday 25 August and the rain warning will be in effect sooner than that from 9pm Monday 24 August.
