With 135 lots on offer and a 98% clearance, mart manager, Sean Leahy was happy with the sale which saw a high average of €1,250.
“The drivers in price were first of all the physical size of the heifers, then the calving date, then EBI after that it was the kilos of milk solids.
This January 2018-born heifer is due to calve in February, with an EBI of €214 she sold for €1,570.
The higher the figures and the stronger the heifer the more she made. Buyers were watching the figures and the physical heifer was the starting point. We’ve another sale with an entry of 70 heifer Friday so hopefully trade will be as good.”
There was a turnout of mainly strong heifers backed up by production figures and EBI. Heifers with less figures available were on the back foot before bidding started.
