The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 706.5m litres for August 2016. This equates to a 7.6% increase in supply from January to August compared with the same period in 2015. It is an increase 1.8% of above the corresponding 2015 figure for August supply.
The total milk sold for human consumption increased by 2.9% to 44.8m litres in August 2016 compared with the same month last year. Meanwhile, butter production was down 8% to 18,600t.
The majority of Irish processors posted an increase in August supply relative to the same month in 2015. Most were up by between 2% and 6% for the month, depending on the processor.
