Two dogs were shot after they killed six in-lamb ewes on a farm in Dunboyne, Co Meath, on Monday.
All dog owners have been warned by the Gardaí to keep their dogs under control at all times, either at home or while outdoors with them.
“Unfortunately another farmer has had to deal with a sheep kill on his farm in Dunboyne. Six ewes in lamb were killed during the incident yesterday by two dogs.
“The dogs were subsequently shot during the attack. No matter how friendly your pet dog is with you at home, the natural hunting instinct comes out in them when they go into a field where there are animals and they are not under control,” guard based in co Meath told the Irish Farmers Journal.
It follows on from an attack by dogs on sheep in Crossakiel, also in Meath, recently.
