Corlismore Herefords secured the overall championship at this year’s national Hereford finals at Tullamore Show with Shiloh Farm Dynamite.
The show attracted Ireland’s finest Herefords from across the country, with nearly 120 in attendance. Given the task of judging was Des Kelly, vice-president of the UK Hereford Cattle Society and owner of the successful Hereford Lurgacullion Horned and Mullin Polled herds in Ballygawley, Co Tyrone.
Des is a well-travelled and widely experienced Hereford judge, having adjudicated events such as the National Tenbury Show last year, a major Hereford event for all UK breeders, and also the Royal Meath Show back in 2016.
After over six and a half hours of judging, he found his champion in the McKiernan family’s two-and-a-half-year-old stock bull Shiloh Farm Dynamite. This February 2016-born bull was bred by Hugh and Sarah Murray and picked up the reserve male champion title at the show in 2016 and 2017. This year the Grianan Freddy son collected the award for male of the year and supreme Hereford national champion.
